How to set up LibreSpeed
Test your internet speed without telemetry. This guide covers how to access it, log in for the first time, configure the basics, and where its data lives so you can back it up.
1. What is LibreSpeed?
A no-tracking, no-ads, no-account speed test you host yourself. Measure download, upload, ping, and jitter against your own server โ useful for testing LAN throughput, ISP performance over time, and your own VPN's overhead. Comparable to speedtest.net minus the data harvesting.
2. How to access it
Once it's enabled, LibreSpeed runs on your SparkBox at:
http://<your-NAS-IP>:8085
Click 'Start' on the LibreSpeed page to run a test against your own server
3. Tips
- Run a test from your laptop to see your real LAN speed โ useful for catching a flaky cable or wifi
- Run from outside your home (over WireGuard or your phone's mobile data) to test what your ISP is actually delivering
4. Where your data lives
LibreSpeed's config and persistent data are stored on the SparkBox host under:
/opt/sparkbox/modules/librespeed/config/
Backups via the SparkBox dashboard's Backup tile include this directory by default, so a single restore brings LibreSpeed back to its current state on a fresh install.
